st. patricks day
17 03 2005As you’re all likely aware, today is St. Patrick’s Day, which serves as yet another float in the parade of pointless holidays that marches on throughout the year. It’s supposed to be a celebration for St. Patrick (duh), the patron saint of Ireland, and was originally celebrated by the Irish and those of Irish descent. Most people who celebrate it now just use it as a reason to go out and get drunk on green beer, which is A-okay with me, I guess. I do have a problem with something like this, which just seems completely pointless to me, and can’t possibly be good for the environment.
For anyone who’s interested, The Onion has a hilarious timeline of Irish history in this week’s issue.
