post office

12 12 2005

I went to the post office today at lunch to get some stamps for our company Christmas cards, and because it’s that time of year, there was a line to the door. I don’t like standing in line, but it does give you time to watch other people. Two things I saw today struck me as interesting.

  • Thing 1 - The grody grizzly bear-wannabe guy who was two spots ahead of me in line had a pocket on his hat. Why?
  • Thing 2 - An old guy who apparently had some sort of OCD. He had bought some stamps for his own Christmas cards, and took them over to a side table to apply them to the envelopes. He would put a stamp on, then take a wadded up handkerchief and spend a good 60-90 seconds pushing on the stamp, like he was trying to get out air bubbles from underneath of it or making sure it was stuck securely to the paper. He did this about four or five times, and it was one of the stranger things I’ve seen in awhile. I was half-tempted to go ask him about it, but I didn’t want to lose my spot in line.
