Have you ever had someone say something to you and you weren’t sure if it was a harmless comment or if they were being a dick? Yesterday afternoon the old guy in the office next to mine was leaving for the weekend and asked if I had any plans for New Year’s Eve, and told me that whatever I did, try to stay a little sober. “Ha, I’ll do my best,” is pretty much how I replied, and I didn’t think anything of it until this morning. We had our office Christmas party a couple weeks ago, and my boss told me Monday morning that he’d heard I had been a little “disoriented” by the time I left. Now I had had three beers, but I was there for like four hours and had had a huge meal, so I was perfectly okay to drive. So I find myself wondering if Old Man River was just assuming that because I’m in my mid-twenties that I would be out drinking, or if he had also heard I was a little tipsy from the party and was making a crack. I guess I’d have to ask him to find out, and I might have to jump his shit if his response was unsatisfactory, so I’ll just let it go this time.
